OUR BROODMARE BAND

Click on a photo of one of our mares to learn more about them.

In our inaugural year, we were proud to announce the first-ever Canadian-born purebred ASH (YAHOO JILLAROO, born March 2009 out of our Foundation Australian Stock Horse mare, WENONA AMY), and now, with the birth of our fifth and final foal of the 2010 breeding season, we're extremely excited to present this year's foalcrop, which includes one full-blooded ASH filly, three first-crosses by our resident sire CADABRA and an AQHA filly out of a full sister of PLAYGUN.

To learn more about our foals, visit the progeny page. Some of our foals will be for sale, and we always welcome enquiries about our horses so please feel free to contact us. We also offer an ambitious embryo transfer programme where you are able to cut the high cost of importing an Australian Stock Horse by purchasing a full bred embryo to be implanted into a recipient mare.

Foals are eligible for 3 registrations: The American Appendix Association, the Performance Horse Registry, plus the overseas Australian Stock Horse Society.

"This, possibly the world's most versatile horse, is often referred to as 'The breed for every need'. The Australian Stock Horse is a fine working and performance animal, renowned for its toughness, endurance, resilience and strength. It also has cat-like speed and agility, giving the horse a cosmopolitan blend of attributes which have produced the world's best at work and play."
—Australian Stock Horse Society

THE PLAN

Current demographics and economics in Canada show a strong desire for family based equine recreational activities. This demand is growing and seems to go hand in hand with the ongoing development of smaller rural properties surrounding urban areas. The Acreage-Lifestyle allows families to maintain one or two horses on their parcel of land. These owners are keen to own horses with qualities that meet the needs of all family members, such as safe and reliable temperaments, versatile, and tractable horses. Australian Stock Horses fit this need well as they have been bred for centuries as a breed that possesses hardiness, good work ethic and temperament. These horses are required to work on the family cattle ranch then continue into the weekend playing demanding sports like camp drafting, polo and polocrosse. These same mounts were able to provide younger family memebers the opportunity to play lower level games and compete in pony club events. The McArthur's breeding program will be directed towards 'Heritage pedigree' Australian Stock Horses, which possess the desired attributes of a versatile, reliable, and safe horse for both the competitor and the recreational horseman in the family.

With the careful selection of pedigrees for the start of the Australian stock horses in Canada. McArthur - Icewood Stock Horses will be continuously improving the Canadian gene pool for all registered ASH horses. Acheived through the importation of breeding stock and semen from both Australia and the USA diversifying the pool of equine genetics and increasing the inventory of young horses suitable for competitive success in all performance sectors of Canadian and North American markets.
